Macropolyhedral Nickelaboranes from the Metal- Assisted Fusion of KB9H14

Institute of Inorganic Chemistry

A further contribution from the working group Interactions of Inorganic Clusters, Cages, and Containers with Light within the AV21 Strategy, Czech Academy of Sciences describes the development of a novel synthetic methods to the production of anti-B18H22 in using transition-metal elements in the oxidative fusion of small borane clusters. This contribution presents the results from such a reaction between K[arachno-B9H14] with [NiCl2(dppe)], in which we describe the synthesis and full structural characterisation of four new macropolyhderal nickelaboranes, one of which uniquely displays a structural geometric change from ‘anti’ to ‘syn’ configuration!
